California Probate Fee Schedule.
California Probate Code §10810 sets maximum statutory attorney fees. Debts are NOT deducted — a home appraised at $1,000,000 with an $800,000 mortgage is still a $1,000,000 asset for fee purposes.

These fees apply to both the attorney AND the personal representative (executor). A $1M estate can incur $40,000+ in combined statutory fees before distribution. A $500 initial filing deposit is required to begin probate.

What does the deposit cover?
The 50% deposit starts the drafting process. Your documents are then custom-prepared to your specific family situation. The remaining balance is due when your completed documents are delivered — before the signing appointment.
Are there any additional fees beyond the flat fee?
The flat fee covers drafting, client calls, and execution guidance. Separate costs that may apply: notary fees for signing, county recorder fees for deeds (typically $15–25 per page), California Secretary of State fees for business entities, and court filing fees for probate. All third-party fees are billed at cost with no markup.
Is there a charge for phone calls with the attorney?
No. There is no charge for client phone calls during the drafting process. If you have a question while we're working on your plan, call us. That's part of the service.
What if my situation is more complex?
The prices above cover the vast majority of California families. If your situation involves unusual assets, multi-state property, complex trust structures, business succession planning, or special needs trusts, pricing is discussed during the free strategy review before any commitment is made.
What are real estate commissions?
